Sofular Hydroelectric Power Plant in Malatya to be completed

Energy Diary - By completing the construction of the Sofular Hydroelectric Power Plant in Malatya, which is 80% complete, will produce 11,78 GWh of electricity per year.

A new environmental impact assessment report has been prepared for Sofular Regulator and Hydroelectric Power Plant, which has a capacity of 3,814 MW). The plant's construction is 80% complete but the 'Environmental Impact Assessment is not Required' decision on it by the Malatya Administrative Court had previously been cancelled. Thus, Şekerpınar Electricity Production Ltd. Company plans to complete the construction of and operate the plant on Tohma Stream in the province of Malatya, district of Kuluncak's Sofular Neighbourhood.

Within the scope of the project worth 23.485.265 TRY, the plan is to receive water with the regulator (with a thalweg of 1.321,60 m, 1.330,84 m of maximum water elevation and 1.328,60 m crest elevation), transfer it to Sofular Hydroelectric Power Plant (with a tailwater elevation of 1.290 m) and thus, to produce a total of 11,78 GWh energy per year with an installed power of 3,982 MWm/3,814 MWe.

It is planned that after the remaining construction work in the project is completed, it will be operated for the duration of a 49-years production license from the date of the latter onwards. For the Sofular Hydroelectric Power Plant project, Energy Market Regulation Authority granted the Production License with the license number EÜ/1391-7/1010 dated 29.11.2007.
