Acrylic

Acrylic

Acrylic is synthetic yarn produced from acrylic fibre, which is petroleum-derived. They are generally produced by warping stable fibre. With their plump and soft touch, they resemble wool. It has various types with differences in its structural composition. The two best-known types are orlon and modacrylic. Orlon is yarn composed of stable fibres produced from polyacrylonitrile. It has more than twenty types. Modacrylic is an acrylic yarn that underwent enhancement of its properties. They are known to be yarns that are light and warm, resistant to light and climate, easy to maintain, shiny and quick to dry. In fabrics, whether weaved or knitted, generally acrylic yarn is used. As it resembles wool, it is suitable for napping. Its low dehumidification capabilities create problems such as static electrification and pilling. It has found use in all knitted or weaved fabric products that require resistance to strong light or climate conditions. Its use is especially frequent in male and female outerwear, textile floor coverings, home textile and, due to its voluminosity, in sweaters.
